There's a benefit that comes from the aggregation of the constant showcasing of New Orleans as a major sports headquarters that really is an invaluable element for us because it creates a cache for the city that we wouldn't have otherwise." Stephen Perry, President/CEO, New Orleans Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau
Organized in August 1988, the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation (GNOSF) is a non-profit 501(c) (4) organization whose mission is to attract and manage sporting events that have a positive economic impact on the Greater New Orleans area. Since 1988, the GNOSF has turned a $25 Million investment, from public and private sources, into a $1 Billion Economic impact. With every event the GNOSF brings to the area, the beneficiaries are wide in scope, including the hospitality industry, city, parish and state taxes, business community, local youth, facilities, and the event organizers themselves. WHAT THEY'RE SAYING: "Having a full-time organization filling the role of the Sports Foundation is a vital asset to the economic redevelopment of the city. The GNOSF was a key factor in the economy before Hurricane Katrina, and it is increasingly important now, with sports a cornerstone of our visitor industry." Doug Thornton, Regional V.P. SMG Facility Management
"We're sensitive to the fact that the area has real challenges, and we want to be supportive in every way we can. We believe we are invested in New Orleans' future, more so now than we were pre-Katrina." Greg Shaheen, Vice President NCAA Division I Men's Basketball and Championship Strategies |
