DIRECTOR OF EVENT operations and community affairs 
The Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation (GNOSF) is seeking an experienced Director of Event Operations and Community Affairs.

 

The qualified candidate's primary objectives are:

  1. To manage and coordinate all operational elements for all events that are owned and hosted by the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation and the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.

  2. Manage the community affairs programs, staff and interns for the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation, the annual R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl and future major events hosted (Super Bowl, NCAA Final Fours, NBA All-Star, etc.), including major event Disadvantaged Business Programs

 

DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Operational:

  1. Develop and implement event plans including signage, medical services, security, parking, athlete services, city services, décor, and transportation.

  2. Coordinate and manage all event operations/logistics and financial expenditures including venues, equipment, officials, and communications.

  3. Communicate with event owners/promoters and GNOSF staff prior to, during and post event.

  4. Work closely with the City of New Orleans for all permits, street closures, meter reservations, etc. needed for major events.

  5. Serve as the liaison with the city’s public safety leadership (Homeland Security, NOPD, NOFD, FBI, etc.) for all major events during all phases (bid, planning and execution) of GNOSF, R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl and all awarded events managed by GNOSF (where applicable).

  6. Serve as the primary operations liaison with the participating teams of the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl and develop all operational and logistical plans surrounding the game, practices, and bowl events.

  7. Continuously update and promote the GNOSF facility guide.

  8. Coordinate set-up, breakdown and clean-up of event venues.

  9. Supervise GNOSF Event Department Personnel, including but not limited to: Event Coordinators, Interns and Event Assistants.

  10. Develop a workplan and goals for operations and community affairs interns.

  11. Produce detailed summary reports and post event evaluations.

  12. Assist Event Sales efforts of the Organization with RFP responses for operational planning and budget forecasting.

 

Community Affairs:

  1. Organize and manage community affairs initiatives for GNOSF, R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl and all awarded events managed by GNOSF (where applicable).

  2. Represent the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation and R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl in community endeavors.

  3. Manage and train interns to coordinate with school systems and education leaders to generate submissions for the Chevron Student Athlete of the Week award and develop a process for presenting the award to the recipients.

  4. Manage process of identifying New Orleans Bowl Annual Inspirational Award recipient.

  5. To manage or oversee staff and interns to implement Disadvantaged Business Programs that connects local businesses with the goods and service provider opportunities for the Super Bowl and other major events (where applicable).

 

General:

  1. Attend all necessary, functions and events related to the above position.

  2. All other duties as assigned by supervisor.

  3. Assist with daily office operations when necessary.

  4. Special projects as assigned

 

Qualified Candidate will possess the following qualities:

  • College degree with a minimum of 5-7 years of professional experience, preferably in event operations and/or community affairs.

  • Experience in all MS Office applications with emphasis in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. General proficiency in project planning solutions, including Slack, Basecamp & SharePoint.

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business, periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, government regulations and documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedural manuals. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively, present information and respond to questions from groups of employees of the GNOSF, managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret and to apply common sense understanding to conduct a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
