DIRECTOR OF EVENT SALES 

 

Overview: 
The Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation (GNOSF) is seeking an experienced Director of Event Sales. Ideal candidate will have previous experience working with amateur, collegiate, and professional sporting event owners and organizations to attract sporting events of all sizes to a large market destination. 
 
Duties and responsibilities include lead generation and tracking, generating request for proposals (RFPs) for event owners and national governing bodies (NGBs), negotiating bid terms, overseeing familiarity tours and sales missions with the New Orleans tourism industry, and preparing and presenting sales efforts at industry events (written, visual, and oral). 

Event Sales Director Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and maintain frequent communication and relationship development with national event owners, organizers and NGBs.  

  • Maintain close working relationships with local partners and serve as liaison between the client and these stakeholders (CVB, venues, hotels, attractions, etc.). 

  • Travel for business development purposes and future host site visits, representing the organization and destination at certain conferences, tradeshows and events throughout the country to promote the region as a destination for sporting events. 

  • Coordinate and/or travel to out-of-town sales missions and networking functions. 

  • Frequent communication with major host sports facilities, convention and visitors bureaus, convention centers and other event facilities to determine availability to host events that are under consideration for bid. 

  • Working with event owners, local CVBs and/or third-party housing companies to secure hotel room blocks during the bids, and collecting post-event rebates or commissions, when applicable. 

  • Work with GNOSF staff, host facilities staffs and other local resources to evaluate RFPs based upon the operational feasibility, financial feasibility, and the return on investment of hosting prospective event. 

  • Prepare customized bid proposals for NGBs and event owners. 

  • Coordinate and conduct client site visits to hotels, venues, restaurants, etc. 

  • Work with the GNOSF staff and outside resources to develop marketing plans and strategies to promote the destination; develop and initiate new clients. 

  • Implement and maintain a customer relation and lead tracking software solution. 

  • Develop or maintain an educated working knowledge of the destination’s meeting facilities, hotels, attractions and offerings. 

  • Produce regular sales reports for internal and external use. 

  • Assist the staff and event committees with communicating and executing the RFP obligations for events awarded. 

Ideal Candidate will possess the following qualities: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Sports Management or Hospitality. Prior sales experience in the hospitality industry preferred. 

  • Knowledge of bid processes and sales techniques as they relate to development and follow-up, presentations and relationship building. 

  • Excellent customer service and communications ability. 

  • Process leadership and project planning skills. 

  • Detail, schedule and deadline oriented.  

  • Microsoft Office proficient. 

  • Strong writing, organizing and presenting skills.
